Description

Domaine Chermette Moulin-à-Vent Les Trois Roches is named for the three rocky parcels behind it: Rochegrès, Roche Noire and La Rochelle.

Moulin-à-Vent is the most structured of the Beaujolais crus, and the one most often said to age like Burgundy. Its reputation rests partly on manganese in the granite soils, a feature common to all three of the parcels Chermette draws on here, and one Pierre-Marie credits with the mineral thread that runs through the wine. Vine age now averages more than forty years. La Rochelle, which looks out over the famous windmill, brings structure; east-facing Rochegrès contributes finesse and supple tannin; Roche Noire adds liveliness and juicy fruit. Unlike the domaine's other cru bottlings, this one sees a portion of barrique ageing, around 15 per cent, which says something about the weight of fruit the appellation delivers. The rest of the winemaking stays traditional, with natural fermentation and large old wood.

Drinking now but built to reward eight to ten years in the cellar. Serve at 16-18°C with slow-cooked beef, roast lamb or a mature cheddar.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
