Description
Domaine Collotte Aligoté is Burgundy's second white grape made by a family estate in Marsannay.
Aligoté was long treated as the poor relation to Chardonnay but is increasingly taken seriously by growers working older parcels on cooler, higher or heavier ground where Chardonnay would struggle. It naturally holds high acidity and gives a lean wine driven by citrus and orchard fruit with a distinct bitter almond edge. Domaine Collotte is based at Marsannay at the northern end of the Côte de Nuits, the only commune on the Côte d'Or permitted to make red, white and rosé under its own village name, and the family farm a spread of parcels across the appellation. The Aligoté is fermented and raised without new oak so its natural cut is preserved.
Sharp, dry and refreshing, it is the classic base for kir and a good match for shellfish, snails in garlic butter and goat's cheese; serve at around 10 degrees.
