Description
Domaine Collotte Gevrey-Chambertin is a village wine from the largest and most grand cru rich commune of the Côte de Nuits.
Gevrey-Chambertin has more grand cru land than any other commune on the Côte d'Or, nine sites headed by Chambertin and Clos de Bèze, and a village appellation that covers a great sweep of ground besides. That land runs from the flatter, deeper soils east of the main road to steeper stony parcels north towards Brochon and up the combe behind the village, so the style of a village Gevrey depends heavily on where the fruit is grown; at its best it shows the commune's dark fruit, earthy depth and firm tannin. Domaine Collotte is a family estate at Marsannay, two villages north, with holdings in Gevrey-Chambertin alongside its home appellation and Fixin.
Dark fruited and structured, it drinks well from about five years and suits beef, game and mushrooms; serve at around 17 degrees.
