Domaine Collotte Marsannay vieilles vignes is an old vine village red from the northern gateway to the Côte de Nuits.

Marsannay runs across three communes on the outskirts of Dijon and has been a village appellation only since the late nineteen eighties, the last on the Côte d'Or to be recognised. It has no premier cru, though a classification of its better lieux-dits has been under discussion for years, and its reds are firm and dark fruited, with more structure than their price suggests. The soils are limestone scree and clay, cooler ground than the villages to the south, and Pinot Noir here keeps good acidity. A vieilles vignes cuvée is drawn from the estate's older plantings, which crop less and give more concentrated fruit; the term has no legal definition in Burgundy. Domaine Collotte is a family estate in the village with holdings spread across the appellation.

Firm and dark fruited with genuine Côte de Nuits grip, it suits beef, game and mushroom dishes; serve at around 16 degrees.
