Domaine Comte Abbatucci Faustine Blanc 2023

Domaine Comte Abbatucci Faustine Blanc is a biodynamic Corsican white made from Vermentino grown on granite in the Taravo valley.

Jean-Charles Abbatucci farms around twenty hectares at Casalabriva in the Taravo valley of south west Corsica, on decomposed granite, working biodynamically with horses for ploughing and sheep grazing between the rows. His father Antoine spent the 1960s gathering cuttings of Corsican grape varieties that had all but disappeared from the island and planted them in a conservatory parcel, and that collection still underpins the estate. Vermentino, known on the island as Vermentinu, is Corsica's principal white variety, and on granite inland it gives a broader, more textural wine than it does on the coastal limestone. Fruit is hand picked, pressed whole bunch and fermented with indigenous yeast in vat rather than barrel, with lees contact for texture and no new oak.

Dry and textural rather than overtly aromatic, it suits grilled fish, brocciu and roast chicken; serve at 10 to 12 degrees.
