Domaine Comte Abbatucci Général Blanc Cuvée Collection 2022

Domaine Comte Abbatucci Général Blanc Cuvée Collection comes from the estate's conservatory of near extinct Corsican white varieties in the Taravo valley.

Antoine Abbatucci spent the 1960s gathering cuttings of Corsican varieties that had almost vanished from the island and planted them in a conservatory parcel at Casalabriva. His son Jean-Charles makes the Cuvée Collection wines from those plantings, farming biodynamically on decomposed granite in the Taravo valley with horses in the vineyard and sheep grazing the rows. The blend is Vermentinu filled out by other old island whites, among them Biancu Gentile. Fruit is hand picked, fermented with indigenous yeast and raised on lees in vat and old wood, and because the varieties fall outside the appellation rules the wine is bottled as Vin de France.

Full and textural, closer to a white Rhône in weight than to a coastal Vermentino, it suits roast fish, veal and mature cheeses; serve at around 12 degrees.
