Description
Domaine Couturier Pouilly-Loché Le Bourg comes from the smallest and least seen of the three Pouilly appellations.
Pouilly-Loché covers a little over thirty hectares in the commune of Loché, just east of Fuissé, and is rarely encountered outside the region. Its vineyards sit slightly lower and further from the great limestone rocks than those of Pouilly-Fuissé, on clay and limestone soils, and the wines are generally softer and quicker to open while keeping good definition. Le Bourg is a parcel around the village itself, farmed by Domaine Couturier, an organic estate whose home is in Loché. Chardonnay is the sole grape permitted, and the wine is made with restraint, using older barrels for texture rather than for flavour, so the appellation's gentler character shows through.
Supple and quietly mineral, it suits roast poultry, veal and soft washed rind cheeses; serve at around 12 degrees.
