Description
Domaine Couturier Saint-Véran Clos du Château is a walled single parcel from the far south of Burgundy.
Saint-Véran runs in two bands either side of Pouilly-Fuissé at the southern tip of the Mâconnais, taking in villages such as Davayé, Prissé, Chasselas and Leynes. The northern parcels sit on the same limestone slopes as Pouilly-Fuissé and produce the firmer wines, while those to the south are a little softer and quicker to drink. Chardonnay is the only permitted grape, planted on clay and limestone with good exposure. Clos du Château is a named walled parcel farmed by Domaine Couturier, an organic estate based at Loché, and the winemaking is deliberately restrained, using older wood rather than new so that site and fruit remain the focus.
Fuller than a straight Mâcon and cleanly dry, it suits white fish, poultry and hard cheeses; serve at around 12 degrees.
