Description

Corcelette is the sandy, granitic sector of Morgon, and this magnum comes from Daniel Bouland's younger vines there, averaging sixty years.

Morgon is the most structured of the Beaujolais crus, but its terroirs differ: the schist-influenced Côte du Py gives firm, mineral wines, while the sand and granite of Corcelette produce more perfume and rounder, finer tannin. Bouland farms several parcels in the sector and separates the younger vines, which are old by any normal measure, from the oldest bush vines that go into his Vieilles Vignes label. Winemaking is the same across the range: whole bunches, indigenous yeasts, and foot treading of the must at the end of fermentation to draw the process out. There is no new oak. The result is a cru Beaujolais with genuine depth and powdery tannin, which is why these wines are increasingly bought for the cellar rather than the picnic basket.

Worth three to five years, and longer in magnum; serve lightly chilled at 14–16°C with roast pork, charcuterie or duck.
