Description

Domaine Daniel Bouland Morgon Corcelette is the first of three cuvées the domaine draws from the sandy, granitic soils of the Corcelette climat.

Morgon is the largest and most structured of the Beaujolais crus, but Corcelette is its exception: sand over granite rather than the decomposed schist of the Côte du Py, which gives wines of greater perfume and finer, rounder tannins. Daniel Bouland separates what he calls his younger vines in this sector — averaging 60 years, so hardly young — from his oldest bush vines, which are bottled under the Vieilles Vignes label. As with everything at the domaine, the fruit was fermented as whole bunches on indigenous yeasts, with the must foot-trodden at the end to prolong the fermentation. There is no new oak. Of the three Corcelette bottlings this is the most immediately open.

Approachable now and good for five to eight years. Serve at 16°C with roast pork, charcuterie or a mushroom risotto.
