Description

Domaine Daniel Bouland Morgon Corcelette Vieilles Vignes Cailloux comes from the rockier soils of Corcelette, the stony counterpart to the domaine’s Sable cuvée.

Corcelette lies in the hilly north-west of Morgon, where most of Daniel Bouland’s old bush vines are planted. Since the 2019 vintage he has bottled the climat’s old-vine fruit in two versions, distinguished on the label by soil: Sable from granitic sand and Cailloux, meaning stones, from the rockier ground. The Cailloux vines are only slightly younger than the near-centenarians behind the Sable, and the stonier terroir gives a marginally more structured Morgon. Fermentation is natural and whole-bunch, as across the range, with low yields and no fining. Compared directly with the Sable, this shows more orange and spice shading and a smoky, hot-rocks mineral profile, long and firm through the finish. It is Bouland’s own favourite of his wines this year.

Approachable now but built to age for a decade or more. Serve at 16-18°C with roast duck, braised beef or a mushroom ragù.
