Description
Domaine Daniel Bouland Morgon Corcelette Vieilles Vignes Sable comes from vines planted in 1926 on granitic sand in the Corcelette climat.
Morgon is one of the ten Beaujolais crus and the one most often compared to Burgundy for its structure and capacity to age. Corcelette lies on the northern side of the cru, where weathered granite breaks down into sand rather than the iron-rich schist of the Côte du Py, giving wines of perfume and finesse rather than sheer power. Daniel Bouland makes three site-specific wines from Corcelette, and this is the sand cuvée, the sister bottling to the stony Cailloux. The vines were planted in 1926, so the Vieilles Vignes description is literal. Winemaking is the same across the range and deliberately unchanged: low yields, natural whole-bunch fermentation and patient handling, so the differences between the cuvées come from the sites and the age of the vines rather than the cellar. The fruit is compact and finely drawn.
Approachable now but worth five to ten years in the cellar, it works with duck, charcuterie or a mushroom risotto. Serve at 16 degrees.
