Description
Domaine Daniel Bouland Morgon Délys Vignes de 1926 comes from a single hectare of century-old vines on the Morgon-Chiroubles border.
This wine used to arrive simply as Morgon Vieilles Vignes and is now labelled with its origin, Les Délys, a terroir at the end of the Corcelette valley on the boundary between Morgon and Chiroubles. The parcel covers one hectare of vines planted in 1926, gnarled old plants on a south-east-facing slope at a density of 10,000 vines per hectare. Yields are tiny, so much so that Bouland has said he would replant if the grafting material he wants were available. Winemaking follows the pattern across the domaine, with natural whole-bunch fermentation and no additions, and this is consistently the most age-worthy wine he makes. The tannins are the firmest and most tightly wound in the range, and the wine carries a graphite-like mineral thread and unusual length for the appellation.
Drinkable now but built to develop over one or two decades, it suits roast beef, game or a well-aged hard cheese. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees.
