Description

Domaine Daniel Bouland Morgon Pré Jourdan, in magnum, comes from a recently acquired parcel of 70-year-old vines on the Morgon-Fleurie border.

Pré Jourdan sits in the north-eastern corner of Morgon, on the south side of a small valley with a north-easterly aspect facing the vineyard of Douby. Daniel Bouland took on the site only recently and farms a tiny parcel of 70-year-old vines, just enough to fill a single large cask, in this case a young Rousseau foudre. The soils are predominantly granitic sand, as in Bellevue and Corcelette, but they run deeper here, and that depth gives Bouland a fleshier and more aromatic Morgon to set against his stonier cuvées. Vinification follows the house method of very low yields, natural whole-bunch fermentation and minimal handling. In Beaujolais terms the wine is deep and mouthfilling, layered with dark berry fruit and smoky, slaty mineral notes, yet it keeps real lift and nuance.

Best after two or three years and good for a decade in magnum; serve with braised beef, game or a mushroom ragout at 14-16°C.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
