Domaine de Courbissac Minervois Les Traverses Rouge 2022

Domaine de Courbissac Minervois Les Traverses Rouge is a biodynamic Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre blend from the estate's younger vines around Cesseras.

Minervois runs along the foothills north of the Aude, and the La Livinière cru at its heart sits high enough for cool nights to preserve freshness in a hot region. Domaine de Courbissac is based at Cesseras within that cru, where Brunnhilde Claux farms biodynamically. Les Traverses is the estate's introductory red, drawn from the younger vines across 11 parcels surrounding the cellar, in roughly equal parts Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. The fruit is hand-harvested, then fermented naturally as whole bunches in concrete vat with the grapes gently foot-trodden and sulphur kept to a minimum. The wine spends six months in concrete, with no oak at any stage, which keeps the fruit direct and the tannins supple. It is a good introduction to the domaine and a reminder of the style Minervois was once known for.

Drink over the next four or five years with grilled lamb, sausages or a ratatouille. Serve at 16 degrees.
