Description
Domaine De Coyeaux Muscat De Beaume-de-Venise Non Millésimé 'Cuvée Solera' is a fortified Muscat from the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail in the southern Rhône.
Beaumes-de-Venise sits beneath the limestone crags of the Dentelles, close to Gigondas and Vacqueyras, and sweet Muscat has been made there since antiquity; the appellation for its vin doux naturel was granted in 1945. The grape is Muscat à Petits Grains, and the method is mutage: neutral grape spirit is added while the juice is still fermenting, which halts the yeast and leaves a good deal of the grape's own sugar in the finished wine. This bottling is raised in a solera, the fractional blending system borrowed from Jerez, in which older wine is drawn off and topped up with younger, so no single year is named.
Serve chilled at 8 to 10 degrees in small glasses; with blue cheese, tart or fresh fruit.
