Domaine de l'Agramante Cuvée M'arricriu Rouge 2023

Domaine de l'Agramante Cuvée M'arricriu Rouge is a southern Rhône blend from two plots of bush vines on windswept sandy terraces at Sabran.

Sabran sits in the Gard, on the western side of the southern Rhône, where sandy and silty terraces and a steady Mediterranean wind help keep wines fresh in a warm climate. This cuvée is made up of Grenache at 35 per cent, Cinsault at 35 per cent, Counoise at 20 per cent and Syrah at 10 per cent, drawn from two plots of gnarled, stubby bush vines on the property. One is planted to Counoise, Syrah and Grenache, the other to Grenache and Cinsault, and both face south. Yields are held to 35 hectolitres per hectare and the fruit is sorted strictly in vineyard and winery, which allows sulphur to be kept to a bare minimum. Each plot is vinified separately, destemmed and lightly crushed, with a six-day maceration and daily pump-overs at cool temperatures, then blended and matured in vat for five months.

Drink over the next three or four years, lightly chilled, with grilled lamb, charcuterie or a tomato-based pasta. Serve at 15 to 16 degrees.
