Domaine de l'Arlot Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots 2023

Domaine de l’Arlot Les Suchots is a Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru from 0.85 hectares in a vineyard long prized for perfume rather than power.

Les Suchots runs along the northern side of Vosne-Romanée, hard against Romanée-Saint-Vivant and Echezeaux, and its relatively deep soils over limestone tend to give wines of scent and silk that show well earlier than the sterner crus of Nuits-Saint-Georges to the south. It suits Domaine de l’Arlot, an estate whose reputation has always rested on finesse, and which holds parcels in two Vosne vineyards known for exactly that. The 2023 was made entirely from destemmed fruit, fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts and aged for fifteen months in French oak, 40 per cent of it new. Under Géraldine Godot the cellar has moved steadily towards gentler extraction and clearer expression of site, and this cuvée is among the clearest illustrations of that approach in the range.

Approachable within three or four years and capable of fifteen. Serve at 16-18°C with roast quail, veal with mushrooms or a soft washed-rind cheese.
