Domaine de la Pigeade Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise is a southern Rhone vin doux naturel, offered here in a half bottle.

Beaumes-de-Venise lies beneath the limestone teeth of the Dentelles de Montmirail in the Vaucluse, and its sweet Muscat is one of the oldest wine styles of the Rhone. It is made as a vin doux naturel: neutral grape spirit is added to arrest the ferment, preserving the grape's own sugar and raising the alcohol to around 15 per cent. The only variety permitted is Muscat a Petits Grains, grown in both white and darker berried selections, and it is unusual in giving a wine that smells distinctly of the fresh grape. Domaine de la Pigeade is a specialist of the appellation. The 375 mL format suits a dessert course for two.

Grapey and sweet with enough acidity to stay lively, it partners apricot and almond desserts, melon, foie gras and blue cheese; serve at 8 to 10 degrees.
