Description
Domaine de Long Dai is the grand vin of the Chinese estate created by Domaines Barons de Rothschild, the family company behind Château Lafite Rothschild.
The vineyard lies in the Qiu Shan Valley on the Shandong peninsula in north-east China, about 20 kilometres from the Yellow Sea, which tempers the summer heat. Planting began in 2011 on granite-based hillsides, laid out in hundreds of small terraces that are each managed and harvested on their own, often over several passes. After years of trials, the first wine was released from the 2017 vintage. Bordeaux varieties are joined by Marselan, a cross of Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache that does well in China. The 2021 blend is built on Cabernet Sauvignon, Marselan and Cabernet Franc. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, and the wine is then matured in barrels made by the Rothschild family's own cooperage in Pauillac.
A wine of this structure rewards patience. Decant for an hour or so and serve at around 17 to 18 degrees alongside roast duck, braised beef short ribs or a herb-crusted rack of lamb. Well cellared, it should keep developing for a decade or more.
*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
