Domaine de Poutéou Bas Armagnac 200ml 1990

Domaine de Poutéou Bas Armagnac is a single-vintage grape brandy from the sandy western part of Armagnac in Gascony.

Sandy, iron-rich soils in the west give brandy with more fruit and finesse than the heavier Ténarèze further east, which is why this zone is the most highly regarded of the three. Ugni Blanc, Baco, Folle Blanche and Colombard are picked early for a low-alcohol, high-acid base wine. That wine goes once through the alambic armagnaçais, the local column still, keeping more grape character than Cognac's double pot distillation. Everything here comes from one year's harvest, laid down in oak.

Amber and mellow, with dried fruit, prune and rancio depth. Pour it neat at 18-20°C in a tulip glass after dinner with dark chocolate, walnuts or a mature hard cheese; a 200ml bottle is a handy way to try a single year.
