Domaine de Poutéou Bas Armagnac 5 Years Old 700ml

Domaine de Poutéou Bas Armagnac 5 Years Old is a young single-estate brandy from Gascony in south-west France.

This is a family property that distils only its own wine, out on the tawny sands in the west of Armagnac. Colombard, Folle Blanche, Baco and Ugni Blanc are fermented dry without sulphur and distilled once, at low strength, so far more of the grape survives than in a double-distilled brandy. At least five years in oak then softens the spirit and adds colour and a touch of vanilla, and it's bottled at 49 per cent.

Vigorous and dry, with orchard fruit and a warm oak finish, and it carries its strength well. Serve at 18–20°C after dinner, neat or over one large ice cube in warm weather, with a walnut tart or salted caramel.
