Description
Domaine de Poutéou Bas Armagnac is a single-estate brandy from Gascony, distilled from white wine and bottled from one vintage.
Of Armagnac's three sub-regions, the western one is the most highly regarded, with sandy, iron-bearing soils that give fruit and finesse. Baco, Ugni Blanc, Colombard and Folle Blanche are picked early and fermented dry to a low alcohol without sulphur. The real difference comes at distillation, a single run through a continuous still at low strength, keeping far more flavour than Cognac's double pot method. Many years in Gascon oak follow, with a slow loss of strength to evaporation.
Rich and dry, bottled at 46 per cent, with prune, toffee and the rancio that only long cask ageing brings. Pour it neat at room temperature, around 18–20°C, in a tulip glass after dinner, with dark chocolate or a hard sheep's cheese.
*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
