Domaine Denis Mortet Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux St-Jacques 1.5L MAGNUM 2023

Domaine Denis Mortet Lavaux St-Jacques, in magnum, is the estate’s signature Premier Cru and the last of its vineyards to be harvested each year.

Lavaux St-Jacques runs up into the mouth of the Combe de Lavaux on the northern side of Gevrey-Chambertin, next door to Clos St-Jacques but without the shelter of that vineyard’s high walls, so it takes the cool northern air that flows down the valley and is always the last site the domaine picks. Domaine Denis Mortet blends this wine from five parcels across 1.2 hectares of the cru, and it has been the signature cuvée of the estate since Denis Mortet’s day; many regard it as the benchmark for the vineyard. It was vinified with a third whole bunches, part of the lighter-handed approach Arnaud Mortet has adopted since taking over in 2006. Quantities are very limited. Only a few magnums are filled.

Give it a decade and expect this format to run for thirty years. Serve at 16-18°C with roast lamb, game birds or aged Comté.
