Domaine Denis Mortet Marsannay Les Longeroies comes from one of the star climats of Marsannay, long earmarked for promotion to premier cru.

The name Longeroies most likely derives from the verb longer, to border, which fits: the climat lies on the boundary between Marsannay and the neighbouring village of Chenôve at the northern end of the Côte de Nuits. The vineyard faces south, and the two Mortet parcels sit mid-slope, one planted with 50-year-old vines and the other with a Pinot Fin selection put in during 1992. Arnaud Mortet, who took over from his father Denis, uses roughly half whole bunches in the ferment and ages the wine for 18 months in oak, only 10% of it new, with the balance in one- and two-year-old barrels. Marsannay prices have risen, but the appellation remains among the last sources of genuine value on the Côte.

Approachable after two or three years and good for a decade; match it with duck, roast lamb or mushroom dishes. Serve at 16-18°C.
