Domaine des Baumard Coteaux du Layon Clos St Catherine is the estate's single-parcel sweet Chenin Blanc, offered here in a 500 millilitre bottle.

Rochefort-sur-Loire lies where the Layon meets the Loire, and the Clos St Catherine occupies a south-facing slope of schist there that Domaine des Baumard has bottled on its own for generations. The family's history in Anjou reaches back to the seventeenth century, and the estate is now in Florent Baumard's hands. Chenin Blanc is picked over several passes through the parcel, pressed gently and fermented cool in tank with no oak, so that the schist and the grape's acidity carry the sweetness rather than any wood character. This vintage was left with 113.3 grams per litre of residual sugar, a shade lighter than the estate's richest years, and is closed under a stelvin-luxe screwcap.

A little more approachable than the sweeter vintages, it works with fruit desserts, foie gras or blue cheese, and the half-litre format suits two or three glasses; serve at around 8 to 10 degrees.
