Domaine des Baumard Savennières Clos Saint Yves 2019

Domaine des Baumard Savennières Clos Saint Yves is a dry Chenin Blanc from an estate-owned clos, sealed under screwcap for long cellaring.

Savennières sits on the right bank of the Loire west of Angers, a small appellation of steep south-facing slopes where Chenin Blanc grows on schist, sandstone and old volcanic rock. The Baumard family, based across the river at Rochefort-sur-Loire, have been among its leading growers for generations and own the Clos Saint Yves outright. Their approach is famously precise: whole-bunch pressing, cool fermentation, protection from oxygen throughout and ageing in tank or older wood so that no oak flavour intrudes. The domaine was an early adopter of screwcap for its top wines, and this bottle carries a stelvin-luxe closure, chosen to preserve freshness through decades in the cellar.

Dry and firm now, it will reward a decade in bottle; serve with scallops, roast poultry or aged cheese at around 12 degrees.
