Domaine des Carlines Trémoulettes Chardonnay 2020

Domaine des Carlines Trémoulettes Chardonnay is a Jura white from the hill country that faces Burgundy across the Bresse plain.

Chardonnay arrived in the Jura centuries ago and is now the most widely planted variety in the region, where growers have long called it by their own local names. The vineyards lie on grey and blue marl with bands of limestone, at greater altitude than the Côte d'Or, and the growing season is cool and often awkward. Jura whites are raised in two ways: kept topped up in barrel, as in Burgundy, or left to develop under a veil of yeast, a habit that has shaped the identity of the region. The vineyard area today is about two thousand hectares, a small remnant of what stood here before phylloxera.

Serve at 11 to 12 degrees with roast chicken, freshwater fish or Comté, and give it a little time in the glass.
