Domaine des Chirats Rockpile Vineyard Syrah 2023

Domaine des Chirats Rockpile Vineyard Syrah is a bold Californian red shaped by a northern Rhône hand.

The label came out of a friendship between Jeff Cohn and Yves Cuilleron, who met at Hospice du Rhône in 1998 and have made this wine together ever since. Fruit is grown on the steep, stony Rockpile ridge above Lake Sonoma, a larger share of whole bunches adds texture, and the wine sits sixteen months in barrel.

Concentrated dark fruit comes with black pepper and a tight, firm frame that reads more Californian than French. Decant it, serve at 17°C, and put it beside smoked brisket, grilled lamb or a washed-rind cheese.
