Description
Domaine des Croix Beaune 1er Cru Les Bressandes comes from steep, thin, gravelly ground at 300 metres, part of which has to be worked by horse.
Les Bressandes shares its name with the grand cru climat on the hill of Corton, both named after Jean Bressans, the medieval landholder who once controlled them. The Beaune vineyard sits high on the slope above the town at 300 metres, on a 25-degree incline steep enough that David Croix cultivates part of it with a horse. The soils are thin and gravelly and the aspect is east, which keeps the fruit fresh on a warm site. The domaine works 0.88 hectares across three parcels planted in 1983, 1987 and 1991, farmed organically for more than a decade. Here the fruit was destemmed in full and extracted carefully before ageing in used casks, so nothing sits between the drinker and one of the great terroirs of Beaune.
Drinking from three years and holding for a decade. Serve at 16-18°C with roast duck, beef bourguignon or a plate of charcuterie.
