Domaine des Croix Beaune 1er Cru Les Cents Vignes 2019

Domaine des Croix Beaune 1er Cru Les Cents Vignes is made from four parcels of old vines planted between 1955 and 1968.

Les Cent-Vignes is one of the first vineyards you meet heading west out of Beaune, and it is unofficially divided in two: an upper slope of brown gravelly clay, the grèze litée, and a lower section on well-drained alluvial soils. Domaine des Croix farms just over a hectare across both terroirs, in four parcels planted in 1955, 1956, 1957 and 1968. The domaine notes that in some vintages Les Cent-Vignes can be the first place in Burgundy to ripen Pinot Noir, yet careful growing keeps notable freshness and drive alongside the vineyard's open-knit, fragrant character. The 2019 was made with twenty-five per cent whole bunches, and the final blend saw only fifteen per cent new oak, which leaves the fruit and the site clearly in view.

Approachable from two or three years and good for a decade. Serve at 16-18°C with roast duck, coq au vin or a mushroom tart.
