Description
Domaine des Croix Beaune 1er Cru Pertuisots comes from the cooler, shallower ground on the Pommard side of Beaune and is the estate’s most mineral premier cru.
Pertuisots lies mid-slope at the southern end of the appellation, where Beaune runs into Pommard and the soil profile begins to change. The domaine farms half a hectare across two parcels: Petite Pertuisots, planted in 1971, and Grande Pertuisots, planted in 1987. Both sit on brown clay topsoils not unlike those of Pommard over a bedrock of Jurassic limestone, though the topsoil here is thinner and the site cooler, which slows ripening and keeps acidity intact. The wine was fermented with about one-third whole bunches and raised with minimal new oak, so the stony character of the terroir is left to carry the wine. Jasper Morris MW, of Inside Burgundy, holds a minority shareholding in the vineyard, which is a small piece of Burgundian trivia worth knowing.
Already open but structured for a decade. Serve at 16-18°C with roast veal, duck confit or a mushroom risotto.
