Domaine des Perdrix Echezeaux Grand Cru 2023

Domaine des Perdrix Echezeaux Grand Cru comes from one of the largest grand cru vineyards in Burgundy, on the slope above Vosne-Romanée.

Échezeaux runs to roughly thirty-seven hectares in the commune of Flagey-Échezeaux and takes in eleven separately named lieux-dits, shared between a great many owners; with a vineyard of that size and that many hands, the grower's name matters a good deal more than the appellation. It lies upslope and to the west of Vosne-Romanée, alongside Grands Échezeaux and the Clos de Vougeot. Domaine des Perdrix is based at Prémeaux-Prissey, further south in the Côte de Nuits. The estate belongs to the Devillard family, who also own Château de Chamirey in Mercurey. Fruit is picked and sorted by hand, fermented in small lots and matured in French oak.

Worth keeping for a decade or more; decant and serve at about 16 degrees with game, beef or duck; it is worth decanting an hour ahead of the meal.
