Description
Domaine Desvignes Givry rouge La Grande Berge is a premier cru from one of the higher, stonier slopes above the village of Givry.
La Grande Berge is a Givry premier cru on the upper part of the slope, where the topsoil thins and hard limestone comes close to the surface. Sites like this ripen a little later than the mid-slope crus and give reds with a firmer, more mineral frame: darker fruit, tighter tannin and a stony finish rather than the immediate charm of village Givry. The Côte Chalonnaise as a whole sits slightly higher and cooler than the Côte de Beaune, which keeps acidity firm even in warm years. Domaine Desvignes works several premier cru parcels in the commune; the reds are fermented in the traditional Burgundian way and raised in oak barrel with a restrained share of new wood.
Structured and stony, it repays a few years in bottle and suits game, roast lamb and aged cheeses; serve at around 16 degrees.
