Domaine du Bel Air Bourgueil Clos Nouveau 2021

Domaine du Bel Air Bourgueil Clos Nouveau is the estate's top single-vineyard Cabernet Franc, made in very small quantity.

Clos Nouveau is an enclosed parcel on the limestone slope of Bourgueil, above the village of Benais, where thin clay sits directly on tuffeau. Vineyards of this kind ripen Cabernet Franc slowly and give wines with fine, chalk-driven tannin and unusual length for the appellation. The Gauthier family farms the plot organically, ploughs the soils and harvests by hand at low yields. The bunches are destemmed and fermented with the vineyard's own yeasts, macerated slowly, then given a long elevage in seasoned oak barrels. The wine is bottled with very little sulphur and is made in tiny volumes each year.

A cellar wine with real depth and grip; serve it with roast lamb, venison or aged hard cheese, decanted, at around 17 degrees.
