Domaine du Bel Air Bourgueil Grand Mont 2021

Domaine du Bel Air Bourgueil Grand Mont is a Cabernet Franc from one of the most highly regarded limestone slopes in the appellation.

Grand Mont is a celebrated lieu-dit on the tuffeau coteau above Benais, a south-facing slope of shallow clay over solid limestone. Vines struggle there, roots run deep into the rock, and the wines carry a chalky, tightly drawn structure that sets them apart from the softer terrace Bourgueils below. Domaine du Bel Air farms organically, ploughing between the rows and picking by hand. The fruit is destemmed, fermented on indigenous yeast and macerated at length to draw out the fine tannin the site gives, then aged in used oak barrels for an extended period before bottling with minimal intervention.

A long-lived, mineral Bourgueil for roast and braised red meats, game and mature cheese; decant and serve at around 17 degrees.
