Domaine du Gros Noré Bandol Rouge 2021

Domaine du Gros Noré Bandol Rouge is a Mourvèdre-led red from Alain Pascal's estate at La Cadière-d'Azur, raised in large old foudres.

Alain Pascal took over the family vines and named the estate after his father Honoré, le gros Noré. His eighteen hectares lie on clay and limestone around La Cadière-d'Azur, terraced and open to the sea breeze from the bay of Bandol, and farmed organically. The red is built on Mourvèdre at around eighty per cent with Grenache and a little Cinsault, destemmed, fermented in concrete with a long maceration and then aged some two years in large old foudres, comfortably beyond the eighteen months the appellation demands. No new oak is used and the wine is bottled with minimal handling, in a deliberately traditional register.

Powerful, meaty and tannic in youth, it rewards a decade in bottle and suits daube provençale, wild boar and roast lamb; decant well ahead and serve at around 17 degrees.
