Domaine du Joncier Lirac 2022

Domaine du Joncier Lirac is a biodynamically farmed red from the right bank of the Rhone opposite Chateauneuf-du-Pape.

Lirac sits on the western side of the river across from Chateauneuf-du-Pape and Orange, on terraces of round galets, red clay and sand that closely resemble those of its more famous neighbours. It has long been the appellation where southern Rhone quality can be found without the Chateauneuf price, and it produces red, white and rose. Domaine du Joncier at Tavel works its vineyards biodynamically, with hand harvesting, indigenous yeast and minimal sulphur, and the house style is fresher and more perfumed than the regional norm. Grenache leads the blend with Syrah, Mourvedre and Cinsault, and the wine is raised in concrete and older wood rather than new oak. The estate has recently been acquired by Chateau Mont-Redon.

Fragrant and medium weight with a garrigue edge, it suits grilled lamb, roast vegetables and charcuterie; serve at around 16 degrees.
