Domaine du Pélican Arbois Chardonnay 2022

Domaine du Pélican Arbois Chardonnay is a Jura white from an estate founded by one of Burgundy's most respected growers.

Guillaume d'Angerville, of Domaine Marquis d'Angerville in Volnay, established Domaine du Pélican in Arbois in 2012, drawn by the geological kinship between the Jura and the Côte d'Or; the two face one another across the Bresse plain and share the same Jurassic marls and limestones. The estate is farmed organically and takes its name from the Clos du Pélican, one of its vineyards. Chardonnay has been grown in Arbois for centuries and is vinified here in the ouillé style, meaning the barrels are kept topped up during ageing, in contrast to the oxidative sous voile method for which the Jura is better known. Arbois is the oldest and largest of the region's appellations, and was among the first in France to be recognised.

Serve at around 11 degrees with poultry, freshwater fish or Comté; it is a wine that rewards a few years in bottle.
