Description
Domaine du Pélican Arbois Clos Saint-Laurent Pinot Noir is a single-vineyard Jura red from an estate established by a Volnay grower.
Pinot Noir has been grown in the Jura for a very long time and is one of five varieties permitted in Arbois, alongside the local Poulsard, Trousseau and Savagnin and, for whites, Chardonnay. Guillaume d'Angerville, whose family domaine in Volnay is one of the great names of the Côte de Beaune, founded Domaine du Pélican in 2012, persuaded that the Jura's marl and limestone soils were near relations of Burgundy's; the two regions look at one another across the Bresse plain. Clos Saint-Laurent is bottled as a single enclosed site, farmed organically and vinified apart from the estate's other reds. Arbois is the oldest and largest of the Jura appellations, and reds account for a good share of what it produces.
Serve at around 15 to 16 degrees, a touch below room temperature, with poultry, charcuterie or mushroom dishes.
