Description
Domaine Dugat-Py Gevrey-Chambertin "Coeur de Roy" Très Vieilles Vignes is a village Burgundy assembled from the domaine's very oldest parcels around Gevrey.
Coeur de Roy is not a vineyard name but a cuvée, blended from several holdings across the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation whose vines are older than those behind the standard village wine. In a commune this large, with soils shifting between the alluvial fan near the village and the stonier ground upslope, a blend of old parcels can carry more depth than any single one. Bernard Dugat-Py and his son Loïc work from cellars in the heart of Gevrey-Chambertin, part of which occupy a medieval tithe building. The domaine is small, farmed organically and known for severe crop levels. Everything is picked by hand and sorted hard, fermented in small volumes and matured in oak. Production is limited and largely allocated.
Decant and serve at about 16 degrees with roast beef, game or hard cheese; it repays a decade in the cellar.
