Domaine Dugat-Py Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru 2022

Domaine Dugat-Py Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru comes from the least often seen of Gevrey-Chambertin's nine grands crus.

Mazoyères sits at the southern end of the grand cru run, on the Morey-Saint-Denis side, on soils that are a little deeper than those of neighbouring Charmes-Chambertin. Its growers may label the wine as Charmes, and most do, which is why bottles carrying the Mazoyères name are scarce. Bottling it under its own name is a statement about the site. Bernard Dugat-Py and his son Loïc work from cellars in the heart of Gevrey-Chambertin, part of which occupy a medieval tithe building. The domaine is small, farmed organically and known for severe crop levels. The fruit is hand harvested and sorted, fermented in small volumes and aged in oak, in quantities that rarely stretch beyond a few barrels.

Decant and serve at about 16 degrees with game, beef or duck; this is a wine built for the long term.
