Domaine Dugat-Py Meursault 1er Cru "Les Charmes" 2022

Domaine Dugat-Py Meursault 1er Cru "Les Charmes" is a white Burgundy from the largest and best known of Meursault's premier crus.

Charmes occupies the middle of the slope on the southern side of Meursault, below Perrières and alongside Genevrières, on limestone soils that are deeper here than in the stonier vineyards above. It is the most extensive of the village's premier crus, and its wines have long been the benchmark for what Meursault can do. The name is thought to come from chaume, the old word for fallow ground, rather than from any charm. The whites of Dugat-Py are a newer venture for a domaine built on the reds of Gevrey-Chambertin, where Bernard and his son Loïc farm organically and crop severely. The grapes are whole-bunch pressed, fermented and matured in barrel, and bottled in very small quantities.

Serve at about 12 degrees with roast chicken, veal or richer seafood; a few years in the cellar will do it good.
