Description
Domaine Dugat-Py Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Referts" is a white Burgundy from the premier cru that sits right on the Meursault boundary.
Les Referts lies at the northern edge of Puligny-Montrachet, adjoining Meursault, and its wines are often said to sit between the two villages in character, with a little more flesh than the premier crus further south. The village lends half its name to Montrachet, the vineyard it shares with Chassagne. The commune's high water table means the cellars in Puligny are shallow, and its wines are famously slow to unwind. Dugat-Py, a Gevrey-Chambertin domaine run by Bernard and his son Loïc, farms organically and keeps yields severe. The grapes are whole-bunch pressed, fermented and aged in barrel with a measured share of new oak, and bottled in tiny volumes.
Serve at about 12 degrees with shellfish, roast fish or poultry; give it a few years in the cellar first.
