Description

Domaine Dureuil-Janthial Bourgogne Blanc is a regional Burgundy drawn from a single old-vine plot inside Puligny-Montrachet.

Bourgogne Blanc is the broadest white appellation in the region, which makes the source of the fruit the only thing worth knowing about it. Vincent Dureuil-Janthial is based in Rully in the Côte Chalonnaise, but this domaine bottling comes from a 0.4-hectare parcel of 50-year-old vines in the lieu-dit La Combe in Puligny-Montrachet, on silt, clay and limestone. The fruit is naturally fermented and raised with just 15 per cent new oak, a restrained regime that keeps the wine's chalky frame intact rather than covering it with barrel character. The vine age and the address do the rest: the wine carries more depth and length than the appellation ordinarily suggests, and the tension familiar from Puligny runs through it. For Australian buyers it remains one of the more honest entry points to this grower's range.

It drinks well on release and will hold for three or four years. Serve at 10–12°C alongside scallops, roast pork or a young Comté.
