Domaine Dureuil-Janthial Bourgogne Blanc 2020

Domaine Dureuil-Janthial Bourgogne Blanc is made entirely from a single plot of fifty-year-old vines in the Puligny-Montrachet lieu-dit of La Combe.

Most regional Bourgogne Blanc is assembled from scattered parcels, so a single-vineyard source is worth noting, particularly when that vineyard sits in Puligny-Montrachet. Dureuil-Janthial's plot covers 0.4 hectares in La Combe, on silt, clay and limestone soils, and the vines are around fifty years old. Vincent Dureuil, whose home base is Rully in the Côte Chalonnaise, treats the fruit exactly as he would a wine of higher standing: whole-bunch pressing, a natural fermentation on indigenous yeasts and an élevage in barrel with just 15 per cent new oak, so the wood stays in the background. The wine that results reads far more like a young Puligny than a regional white, with the salty cut and fine structure the village is known for.

Drinking well on release and worth keeping four or five years. Serve at 10-12°C with grilled fish, roast chicken or a mushroom tart.
