Description
Vincent Dureuil's Bourgogne Rouge is unusual for its level in coming from the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune rather than the regional plain.
Dureuil-Janthial is based at Rully in the Côte Chalonnaise, where Vincent Dureuil has been the leading grower for two decades, but this estate bottling traditionally draws on parcels further north, principally half a hectare at Premeaux and a third of a hectare at Puligny. The average vine age is now over 40 years, which gives the wine more depth of fruit than the appellation usually manages. The crop is entirely destemmed and the wine raised with one-third new barrels, an élevage that adds spice and polish without weighing the fruit down. Even from a complicated growing season it has the density and perfume of a village wine, with red and dark cherry fruit and fine, lacy tannins.
Drink now and over the next five to six years, with roast chicken, charcuterie or mushroom dishes, at 16°C.
