Domaine Dureuil-Janthial Rully 1er Cru Le Meix Cadot Blanc 2020

Domaine Dureuil-Janthial Rully 1er Cru Le Meix Cadot Blanc comes from a walled, chalky parcel on the small plateau east of the village, farmed organically.

Le Meix Cadot is the largest of Rully's premier crus, sitting on a low plateau to the east of the village. The name is straightforward enough: meix is an old Burgundian word for a farm, and Cadot is a common surname in southern Burgundy, so the vineyard is simply Cadot's farm. Dureuil-Janthial controls 1.71 hectares here, planted in 1985, in a chalky, wall-enclosed section that is well suited to Chardonnay. As across the rest of the domaine's holdings, the soils are clay over limestone and the farming is organic. In the cellar the fruit is whole-bunch pressed and fermented in barrel with a restrained proportion of new wood. It is one of the strongest arguments for the Côte Chalonnaise as a source of serious white Burgundy.

Drinking well from a year or two and holding for six to eight. Serve at 10-12°C with grilled whiting, roast chicken or a leek and gruyère tart.
