Description
Domaine Dureuil-Janthial Rully 1er Cru Les Margotés Blanc comes from vines planted in 1946 in the southernmost premier cru of the village.
Rully sits at the northern end of the Côte Chalonnaise and makes more white wine than red, with a run of premier crus on east-facing slopes above the village. Vincent Dureuil-Janthial has been the reference point here for two decades, farming organically and working with a light hand in the cellar. Les Margotés faces east at the southern edge of the appellation, on white marl and oolitic limestone, a combination that gives the wine its characteristic mix of tension, flesh and backbone. The vines Dureuil works here were planted in 1946, so yields are naturally low and the fruit concentrated. The wine is barrel-fermented and raised on lees, with new oak kept modest so that the marl-driven salinity stays in the foreground. Quantities are very small.
It drinks well from release and will hold five to eight years, alongside grilled flathead, roast chicken or a soft washed-rind cheese. Serve at 10 to 12°C.
