Description
Domaine Dureuil-Janthial Rully Blanc is the estate's village white, made only from organically farmed domaine fruit.
Rully sits at the northern end of the Côte Chalonnaise, just south of Chagny, and makes roughly equal amounts of red and white on limestone-rich slopes. Vincent Dureuil-Janthial draws this wine from five plots, among them La Martelle, La Bergerie, En Guesnes, Chaponnière and Le Meix Cadot. The vines average more than 40 years, with the oldest approaching a century, which is remarkable for the Chalonnaise and accounts for much of the wine's concentration. Vinification is entirely in barrel, with 20 per cent new oak from the Chassin cooperage. The result carries more chalky tension and flesh than the appellation usually offers, and the domaine's exacting work in the vineyard shows in the intensity of the fruit.
Drinking now and worth five to seven years. Serve at 10-12°C with roast chicken, grilled snapper or a creamy potato gratin.
